BIC Sport Awarded « Brand of the year » by EuroSIMA
BIC Sport has been voted Brand of the Year by EuroSIMA, the Europe-wide trade
association for board sports, vote announced at the annual gala dinner,
The Waterman’s Ball, in Hossegor (southwest France) on the 4th October.
The Waterman’s Ball is an invitation-only event, conceived as a way of bringing the
industry together for the annual industry awards, but equally importantly as a means
of raising funds to help pay for the sustainable development projects the association
has initiated. 250 of the industry’s great and good – company directors, employees,
sport personalities and professionals – assembled for their big night out, to celebrate
the annual EuroSIMA Industry Awards, recognition for businesses, athletes, and other
key figures who have played a significant role in the development of the board and
water sports industries in Europe over the last year.
The Brand of the Year award recognises the actions and efforts made by
manufacturers of boards, sail fabric, board shoes, wet/drysuits or other accessories,
having had a golden year in terms of progression, product development, and/or a
major boost of brand image accross Europe during the year.
BIC Sport was rewarded for its exceptional performance throughout the 2012/2013
season, with year-on-year sales up by 15%. The EuroSIMA award is also in recognition
of the fact that 95% of the company’s products are manufactured in France,
using sustainable production techniques respecting environmental considerations.
And of course the huge role BIC Sport has played in making surfing a true sport-for-all
since the company was founded in 1979. Symbolically, in 2013 the 100,000th Mini-
Malibu 7’3 board rolled off the production line at our factory in Vannes, Brittany, France.
Equally symbolically, BIC Sport is now one of the leading names in the new sport of
Stand Up Paddle. As they say in America, « Do the Maths ».
