SUP Fishing with a Push Pole
Salt Strong explains how and why to SUP fish!
« SUP fishing has quickly become one of my favorite ways to fish because it enables me to quietly move across the water similar to a kayak while having a much higher line of sight which allows for much better visibility in the water.
So for anglers like me who enjoy sight fishing, the stand up paddle board (SUP) is one heck of a tool.
And this recent trip took it to a whole new level when testing out the inclusion of the push pole as well as the casting platform from my boat.
Because the casting platform gave me an additional 14 inches of vertical line of height, while the push pole allowed me to easily and quietly move myself around the flat to sneak up on unsuspecting fish.
Best of all, the push pole acts as a big rudder allowing for a much more controlled drift when letting the wind move me down the flat.
In this first SUP fishing trip I did with the push pole, I saw 30 to 40 fish (reds, snook, and trout). And that was a spot that I’ve only been to once before… so I can’t wait to take it to some of my favorite spots.
