Full body itness the paddling

Let’s face it. we all want to look like our bodies are
photoshopped. The problem always is, ‘‘How do we get

paddlesports for itness. Of course, it’s not just about the

becoming more important. Paddleboarding it helps when the means to the itness end is also exciting and

most of the top paddleboard racers today are also kayakers,

or outrigger paddlers.
Paddleboarding, as the new kid on the block, ofers perhaps
the most complete all-body workout, especially on narrower

less stable boards (which are also faster and more rewarding
to paddle). The fact that you’re teeter-tottering on it forces
your entire body to work just to remain balanced. Every
muscle in your feet, all the way up your legs, abs, lats, dorsal
muscles and even your neck muscles are working with each
stroke to remain perfectly balanced as you pull hard. At the
end of a SUP workout, your entire body feels like it’s been put

through the ringer.
That said, where kayaks (inland) and surf skis (open ocean)

step in, is that you can pull even harder. The seated position,
combined with the double blade, allows you to reach a level
of pure cardio vascular training that is hard to achieve on a
paddleboard. The quick double-sided motion of kayaking,
especially with wing paddles, will bring your heart rate up to
a level that far exceeds the norm paddleboarding, and a rate
than can be maintained more evenly for longer periods of time.

Outriggers, and to a lesser extent, Dragon Boats, ofer
something in the middle of the other two. The seated position
means that less efort goes into balance, and more goes into

a high-rate, rhythmic stroke.
As an aging Olympic athlete, I use both paddleboards and

kayaks to stay in shape. The combination of the two ofers
me a more complete all body workout: the paddleboarding
helps develop all-over muscular growth, while the kayaking
targets more acutely my heart and respiratory system. Given
the fact that I’m almost allergic to gyms or “abaiers,” and
two decades of snowboarding has destroyed my knees to
the point where running (and even cycling) are almost out
